Christmas Card Making Date Night

Card-Making-Date-Night

With Christmas on the horizon and every penny going toward the festivities, date nights can become few and far between this time of year; but remember that you don’t need to spend a fortune to spend quality time with your spouse.  This week, Andrew and I enjoyed a thrifty date night of our own, using up spare craft materials to create beautiful bespoke Christmas cards for our family.

In fact, we split this particular date into two days.  A few days before, Andrew and I had set off into town to capture photographs of iconic local landmarks.  This can be great fun in itself, encouraging you to look at your home town with fresh eyes.  We settled on pictures of the beautiful Ashton Memorial in our local park.

The memorial is a stunning building, commissioned by Lord Ashton in the early 1900s in memory of his wife, a popular choice for weddings in the area and a unique venue for Christmas carol concerts that Andrew and I have enjoyed the past couple of years…

When date night rolled around, the fire was lit, the red wine opened and jazz poured from the radio.  With the wild wind and rain outside, the scene was set for some cosy Christmas crafts.

Now, it may not be particularly ‘rock and roll’ but there is something quite special about having a simpler date night now and then.  For us, Christmas crafts gave us time to just chat over a glass of wine, and catch up on each others’ days with no distractions (other than glue and glitter sticks!).

It’s certainly helped to get us into the Christmas spirit – excitedly discussing how we’d like to dress the tree this year, reminiscing on Christmasses past, including that all important Christmas wedding and honeymoon in New York we had last year!

I’m pretty sure we could have had these conversations with any other date night that we may have planned, but there was a warm feeling being in our own home, enjoying the simplest of things, putting the effort in to ourselves, and our family cards.

I don’t know about you, but I’d say we’re a pretty good team judging by the end results…

  1. Love your cards and that you made a date night out of it!

I love this idea…except my husband never lets me near the Christmas cards. That is his “thing” being an artist and all!

    1. Ahh I’m sorry, I only just saw this! Thank you – they turned out way better than we expected, and any excuse for a date night right 😛
