Eventually I will get round to telling you all about our honeymoon in New York last Christmas – we took so many photos so that’s going to be an epic piece that needs much consideration! But for now, as you may know, our focus is on finding a new house, and putting together some decorating ideas for when we get there. My latest mood board brings back all the memories of our once in a life time trip, with a New York Loft style for our bedroom.
If you take a look on Pinterest you’ll see this style has been done many times over. With industrial chic becoming increasingly popular, there’s plenty of inspiration out there. I love the industrial theme but my worry is that it could look too masculine, or a bit cold – for a bedroom.
So for our New York loft look I want to introduce a bit of colour.

I’m taking my colour scheme inspiration from this retro style Central Park poster, which will make the look in keeping with the retro decor in the rest of the house.
I like this combination of oranges and blue-ish grey. The orange brings warmth to the look, whilst the grey is a softer alternative to the stark contrast of black and white that so often accompany an industrial style. The colour scheme is also very similar to what I’m suggesting for the kitchen – so this should help to bring more cohesion throughout the house too.
Faux brick wallpaper is an easy way to bring the industrial theme to life, and I hope to find some large round string lights too. Using images that we took on our honeymoon with bring our New York memories flooding back, keeping the room feeling personal to us, while bringing the New York element in.
I love this sign which I found on Etsy – not only does it suit the theme but again it can act as a happy reminder of the places we visited on our honeymoon.
I’d love to find a great statement light to complete the look but I’m yet to find the perfect one. Something that is stylish, retro and industrial-looking all in one. Ironically I remember seeing something at the Brooklyn Flea Markets that would have been perfect – shame it would never have fit in my suitcase home! The search continues…
Has anyone else tried this industrial look at home? I’d love to get some more inspiration – share your pics with me on Twitter @LoveinMindBlog.
